Applications Engineers (AE) at The MathWorks are highly technical team members whose primary responsibility is to manage the technical aspects of the sales process.

The Application Engineer for Rapid Prototype/HIL Simulation is characterized by intense interaction with high tech companies in a variety of industries. The interaction serves to understand the customer needs and to present the capabilities that address those needs. Thorough technical know-how and strong presentation and people skills are key ingredients for success in this role.
This Application Engineering position is in the area of control applications. Our customers are using Simulink to model the behavior of complex technical systems and design control systems.
Code-generation techniques might be used to implement a first prototype or to create a real-time plant-model (HiL).
The successful "Rapid-Prototyping/Hardware-in-the-Loop (RP/HIL) Application Engineer" will build on his/her experiences in model based design and embedded software testing to understand and effectively
communicate the benefits of the integrated Model-Based Design tool chain from The MathWorks


Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks Benelux Sales Organization and customers in the areas of rapid prototyping and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
Engaging prospective customers to understand their workflow. The AE will leverage his/her product knowledge and industry experience to demonstrate or explain how software tools from The MathWorks can solve their problems and, in turn, improve their engineering processes.
Preparing and delivering presentations to customers and prospects during customer meetings and marketing seminars. These sessions include, but are not limited to, live demonstrations.
Supervising product evaluations. Prospective customers may require guidance on how to evaluate our products. It is the AE's responsibility to plan and supervise the evaluation project.
Providing feedback of findings from customer interaction to the company's development and marketing initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and 7 years of professional work experience, or master's degree and 5 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree is required.

Significant experience in Model-Based Design and/or embedded software engineering, rapid controller prototyping, and real-time systems testing is desired.
Interested in working directly with customers to help them understand how to apply our products to their problems.
Ability to effectively communicate his/her passion for The MathWorks software to our customers; ability to discuss how MathWorks' products are changing the way embedded systems are being built for control systems, signal processing, and related engineering domains.
Preferred Qualifications

University degree in engineering, (Master degree or equivalent)
Significant experience in developing automation systems e.g. for industrial machinery.
Strong embedded software testing skills, working knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop systems, and knowledge of the software development issues and processes in industry.
Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and a broader set of MathWorks products including the control design tools and xPC target are a plus
Demonstrated ability to perform computational analysis, modeling, and simulation tasks and ability to discuss how our products are used to solve engineering and business problems
Fluent written and spoken English, good knowledge of the Dutch language would be helpful.
Strong verbal and written communications skills and proficiency in the delivery of presentations.
